Description
Purpose. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) invites new or renewal applications from single institutions or consortia of institutions with multi-disciplinary investigator teams to participate in the Centers for Medical Countermeasures against Radiation (CMCR) program. The primary goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support development of new medical products that will assess, diagnose, mitigate and/or treat the short- and long-term consequences of radiation exposure after a radiological/nuclear terrorist event. This research program originally established by NIAID in fiscal year 2005 under RFA-AI-04-045 is now being reissued. All qualified investigators are invited to apply; prior funding under this program or through NIAID or NIH is not required.
Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the multi-project Cooperative Agreement (U19) mechanism.
Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. It is anticipated that approximately $24 million in total costs will be available in FY 2010 to support this program and that 8-10 awards will be made. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
